Louis Vuitton celebrates 10th anniversary of City Guides

    POST A COMMENT

For ten years Louis Vuitton has been capturing the spirit of cities and sharing its love of travel with the City Guides. Updated and enriched each year, the guides delight leisure travelers, nomadic business visitors and indeed the residents of the cities explored.

There are thousands of addresses, from reliable favorites to new locations, revealing the very soul of the city. For the new edition, the City Guide features a fresh look, a revamped format and new sections.

To capture the spirit of the cities in the 2009 City Guide series, Louis Vuitton calls on journalists, writers and artists. What’s more, 30 famous figures have been invited to offer their personal takes on the cities they love.

Actress Monica Belluci discloses her addresses in Rome, the sommelier Georges dos Santos reveals a few secrets of Lyonnais gastronomy, and opera singer Angela Gheorghiu recounts her trips back and forth to Bucharest.

For the first time, Mumbai, Miami, New York, Paris and Tokyo are available in individual volumes. The iconic European collection takes us to 32 cities, including six new destinations: Bucharest, Glasgow, Lausanne, Palermo, Manchester and Saint-Tropez. There are also maps and three audio walks that can be downloaded in MP3 format from www.louisvuittonsoundwalk.com for a unique discovery of three Chinese cities.

In a subtle reference to Louis Vuitton’s heritage, the design of the 2009 City Guides is inspired by the vintage luggage labels that used to be affixed to Louis Vuitton trunks, evoking the timeless theme of travel.

    Stephen Sprouse handbags

    POST A COMMENT

Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton have launched a new line of Stephen Sprouse handbags showcasing the designers’ pop art/grafitti style.

Jacobs took two iconic Sprouse motifs - the graffiti and the rose - and interpreted them in Day-Glo shades of pink, green and orange over the Monogram print

“I tried to take what Stephen had done at Vuitton and then kind of flip it in my head, and make it Vuitton’s work for Stephen, not Stephen’s work for Vuitton,” Jacobs said. “I just felt it was a funny way to play with it, to pretend to be Sprouse for a bit, and use the work that he did, and then bring it back to the work that he did before I collaborated with him.”

Damier Graphite, the new men's line from Louis Vuitton

    POST A COMMENT

Louis Vuitton revisits the Damier iconic motif for men with a new line. In elegant black and grey tones, the new Damier Graphite line has a distinctly urban style, pure and precise, contemporary and cosmopolitan.

Woven in Italy, the canvas has the trunkmaker's discreet "Louis Vuitton Paris" emblem stamped diagonally ten squares (height and width), positioned with ultra-precision on each of the pieces in the collection. The smooth black leather is graced by bright polished palladium hardware. The Damier Graphite collection spans shoes, ready-to-wear, jewelry and accessories, including a motorcycle helmet.

These functional leathergoods are totally in phase with modern lifestyles. Joining iconic Louis Vuitton classics like the Keepall 55 and the timeless Pégase cabin bag with wheels, the luggage range introduces new stars, including the multifunction Roadster bag, the Reporter city bag, and a roomy briefcase. An extensive selection of small leather goods accessories adds instant classics to this sleek and esthetic new line.

The collection both pays homage to the rich heritage of the Maison and a tribute to the modern man, embodied by actor Nicolas Duvauchelle, whose black and white promenade through Paris was shot by photographer Phil Poynter.

    LOUIS VUITTON stands

    POST A COMMENT

LOUIS VUITTON plans to build 10 New York-style stalls - in a stand against counterfeiting. The stands will sell authentic Louis Vuitton products, Vogue UK reports.

"We always thought that counterfeit requires zero tolerance for several reasons," Yves Carcelle, chairman and chief executive officer of Louis Vuitton, explains to WWD. "It's a grey economy that escapes all rules of normal labor and normal economic rules and taxations, so it's a bad thing for every state in the world. Secondly, it's bad for any kind of creativity, research and development, because if you don't protect intellectual property, why should people dedicate time and energy to create?"

The new Louis Vuitton Fall/Winter 2007-2008 ad campaign is all about feminine sensuality, infused with 1950’s Hollywood glamor. The campaign subtly revisits the theme of the last Louis Vuitton fashion show—"Girl with the Monogram handbag"—as well as the colors and textures inspired by Vermeer and the golden age of Dutch painting.

Gorgeously shot by photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Scarlett Johansson incarnates the ultimate femme fatale with her platinum blond hair and languorous poses.

Like a chiaroscuro painting, her porcelain skin contrasts with the dark, silky colors of the heavy drapes. Rich nuances and precious materials are revealed in the mustard green of a silk blouse, the orange of a shiny rabbit fur coat, and the royal blue of a cocktail dress decorated with ostrich feathers.

From the wide metal bracelet to neo-ethnic feathers, from the circle-heel shoes to the gleaming leather boots in red and powder pink, accessories amplify the clothes, including the new Neverfull bag in Monogram canvas.
