3 Cheap Arts and Crafts for Stress Relief

Being a housewife can be an incredibly demanding role at times; there are no set hours, no specific designated job responsibilities, and it’s not unusual for mothers to find themselves with a skewed work-life ratio. Sometimes it can feel like it’s simply your job to pick up the slack whenever and wherever you can, and that can take an enormous toll on your sanity!

That’s why, today, we’re going to take a look at a few arts and crafts that you can use to unwind at the end of the day, week, or whenever you finally happen to get an hour or two to yourself. While refrigerators aren’t at all mandatory for these crafts, having one to put your awesome new custom magnets on only makes sense.

1. Making Your Own Fridge Magnets

The best way to do this is to head over to Google and scour the web for some magnet kits. These usually do all the hard work for you; each pack simply contains a selection of blank, transparent magnets with paper inserts pre-cut for you to use.

All you need to do is decide what you’re going to draw, create your masterpiece, put the slip of paper back into the magnet and then give it pride of place on the fridge door. You’ll be like the Picasso of your kitchen in no time!

2. Using Stencils to Create Beautiful Art

There are a number of ways to use stencils; one is to make your own, either by cutting a variety of materials manually with a scalpel or going the easier route with an electronic cutting tool (this is also much more suitable if you have issues with your hands, or you envisage creating particularly complex designs).

Another way to approach stencils is to simply buy some premade ones online. These are often cut using industrial machinery and durable materials, so you’ll be able to get an amazingly clean print every time.

Once you’re ready to begin painting, using stencils is incredibly fun and soothing. There are many creative ways to use them; you can either paint using a sponge, a roller, an airbrush, a watergun filled with paint, or other method you can think of. The main thing is that you have fun, and that you get to show off your artwork when you’re done!

3. Take a Drawing Class

Drawing is a very rewarding pastime. Being able to sit down with yourself, a pad of paper, some pencils, a cup of coffee, and being able to unwind as your lines slowly take on a more complex form is a great way to relax.

Taking a drawing class also means that you’ll get time to meet with others who share the interest, and possibly even other housewives in your situation. Don’t listen to anybody that says only select individuals can draw; by understanding and practicing the basic principles, you’ll soon start to see your abilities grow, and you’ll always have something to do whenever you have a spare hour or two.

Arts and crafts are an amazing way for anyone to relax. We hope that this article has given you some ideas about how to spend your downtime, and remember to keep checking back for more great articles like this one!
